Every Christmas, the TV schedule is always full to the brim of absolute corkers. Whether it’s a classic film or a TV special, the family, or whoever you spend Christmas with, are undoubtedly surrounding the box whilst nursing their full bellies. But what to watch?!
Well, to truly get into the Christmas spirit, we thought we’d pick the best bits from Christmas Day’s tv schedule so all you have to worry about is tuning in with a mulled wine in one hand, and a mince pie in the other.
Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special – Christmas Day, 8.30pm, BBC One
Some of us have been waiting for this one ever since they announced back in May. Our favourite Welsh and English collaboration are back for a Christmas special, bringing some belly laughs and giggles to our living rooms. We can’t wait to catch up with the Shipman’s and the West’s! And if you’ve never watched Gavin and Stacey before, we suggest you binge the whole three series before the 25th!
Steven Knight’s A Christmas Carol – Sunday 22 December, 9pm, BBC One
Ahh, A Christmas Carol – what a classic! And this year, creator of the Peaky Blinders series Steven Knight has whipped up a thrilling gothic version of this Christmas story. Probably not one for the kids, but those who enjoy the grit of Peaky Blinders will sure be in for a treat with this gripping drama. To be enjoyed over an Irish coffee we think!
The Great Christmas Bake Off/Festive Bake Off – Christmas Day, 7.10pm; New Year’s Day, 7.40pm, Channel 4
It’s very difficult to find someone who doesn’t love Bake Off, so sticking this on the telly after Christmas dinner is a surefire to get everyone settled down. Back for an exclusive festive bake-off, Paul and Pru are ready to sample some delicious tent-baked Christmas treats.
Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special – Christmas Day, 4.40pm, BBC One
A perfect one to stick on after the adults have chucked back a few too many Bucks Fizz and aren’t afraid of a practising their tango! The much loved Strictly Come Dancing returns for a special Christmas episode which will make a perfect watch for when you’re awaiting your turkey to be finished cooking to perfection. So, get your dancing shoes on and tune in!
