[lead]Okay, we think that’s the only egg-ceptionally bad Easter pun we’ll use. Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves[/lead]
Bad puns aside, Easter is just around the corner! So, as we usually do here at Tactical, we thought we take a look at some of the effects this holiday has on the world of retail, as well as some of the egg-strordinary easter eggs that you should look out for this year! (Sorry, it’s just so easy).
Last month, Tactical took a very in-depth look at the origins of this fun holiday, as well as some of the instore trends that we see every year when Easter rolls around. But just before we take a look at Tactical’s findings, we thought we’d give you a little refresher on what Easter is all about.
What is Easter?
Easter and its surroundings celebrations stem from a Christian holiday which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The celebrations consist of Lent, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and of course, Easter Sunday. As the holiday has entered the mainstream, Easter is now recognisable through its bank holidays, nods to the coming of spring and not forgetting lots and lots of chocolate eggs. To accommodate this period of increased spending and impulse purchasing, many retailers take it upon themselves to adapt their marketing and implement special displays in-store to draw in customers and get in the Easter spirit.
The Stats…
According to Tactical’s findings,
- Easter spending was up by £1.7 billion in 2019
- Spending increases by 5.9% in April
- Shoppers are spending;
£49m on fresh lamb
£41m on prosecco
£136m on flowers
£213m on Easter Eggs - The average spend of each person for 2019 was £24.41
